Like many of my art pieces, this one also started as a concept for a challenge. I had to come up with a character design under the topic "The four elements".
I choose water, but with a small twist. I fell for the idea of a bubble boy, tyring to escape from the hold of a plastic ring, while his certain end is just a 'pop&quot; away.
At first I planned it to be a co-production with my twin brother Ofir, who's a talented 3D artist, but after time flow by, this concept was pushed into a dark corner on my computer.
After going trough some old concept, I decided to execute it the old way, using a combines techniques: a bit of 3d modeling (the soap ring-thanks Ofir), some photo shooting (the plastic cup), and a lot of photoshoping using vector tool and textures on top. I tried to give this piece a hyper realistic 3D feeling, but yet to keep a clean graphic design sense.
During my searches on the web after materials references for the floor, I came across a perfect choice of a bathroom floor grid on John Evans (Rotin's) photostream at Flickr.com.
though I tried to contact him, I didn't seem get any response. yet I feel obligated to give this guy the credit for using his photo as a reference, so here is the link:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnevans/220366585
hope you like it. I've enjoyed exploring the big-small world of soap bubbles. thanks for all my friends giving me creative crit along the way.

Erroca Eye Wear Commercial

Hello guys
Wanted to share the latest project I had the pleasure designing and art-directing, here at JCS studio. the Erroca Eye Wear Commercial.
Though the concept is controversial- pro global warming, and destruction of earth & ozone layer, the design process of a post apocalyptic environment was a lot of fun.
Since don't consider myself to be much of a Matt painter, the whole process was a big challenge for me. the fact that we were given only two and a half weeks to put it all together according to the off-line editing, didn't made life easier.
Luckily, I was given an artistic freedom from the director & client, so I didn't get any sticks in my wheels along the way. the only barrier standing between me and the finish line were my skills.

most of the designs was projected over a 3D models, and was composed using after affect. the animated parts- trees, bicycles using Maya, fire & particles simulations using FumeFX.
A link to the final product, VFX Breakdown, along with the credits list of the talented dudes that made this happen, can be found here:
This cool project was developed by Dana Ben-david, a talented friend, in propose of educating young children to the values of environmental care, recycling, healthy food diet, and well being concern .The guide line for the character was to be cute, cool, with the features of gaming. I tried to keep the design of each character, as close as I could to it's essence. Dr, seewell super vision for example ,comes from his passion for carrots, and his outfit shape & color, was designed accordingly.
I had a lot of fun with it. hope you like as well.
I must say it was my first experience painting surrealism. to a logical guy like me it took some time to try to figure out what it's all about.
Stromboli's catch

This piece is my first cg challenge try, just couldn't say no to a steam punk theme, I always liked the tale of Pinocchio, and for me, Stromboli the villain dude was a perfect choice for a steam punk character. my inspiration for his features, based on his description from Disney's work:
"Charm and flattery are the facade for this heartless showman who burns his puppets for firewood when they've grown too old to perform. Money is the puppeteer's sole passion, and his marionettes are only a means to an end. As soon as Stromboli realizes Pinocchio's carnival potential -- a puppet who can sing and dance without strings -- he'll stop at nothing. Only kidnapping can ensure this "little wooden gold mine" keeps performing for him, whether Pinocchio likes it or not."
http://disney.go.com/vault/archives.../stromboli.html
I tried to give my piece the feeling as if it was ripped out of the pages of a children book, but not the one you read to your kid before bed time.
It all started from a sketch on the train ride back from work, and ended up as a deep research. since my knowledge in anatomy is quite poor, it took me a long of time to build this pose right. I used all kind of bodybuilder ref for some help.
The thing I enjoyed the most is the armor & weapone design, and new technique I used that based on a quick outlines, light, shadow. and color mixed together with the use of minimum layers. there was something more creative about it.
The old version of this piece was originally made for the Halloween Gnomon challenge, and to my surprise, won the first place. so thanks to that I now have a pile of 40 dvd's on my shelf (which sadly I have no time to look at).
Since I wasn't happy with the result I took the time for a slow make over, and gave this painting a big kick.
Hope you will enjoy it...
