December 2009

Like many of my art pieces, this one also started as a concept for a challenge. I had to come up with a character design under the topic "The four elements".
I choose water, but with a small twist. I fell for the idea of a bubble boy, tyring to escape from the hold of a plastic ring, while his certain end is just a 'pop" away.
At first I planned it to be a co-production with my twin brother Ofir, who's a talented 3D artist, but after time flow by, this concept was pushed into a dark corner on my computer.
After going trough some old concept, I decided to execute it the old way, using a combines techniques: a bit of 3d modeling (the soap ring-thanks Ofir), some photo shooting (the plastic cup), and a lot of photoshoping using vector tool and textures on top. I tried to give this piece a hyper realistic 3D feeling, but yet to keep a clean graphic design sense.
During my searches on the web after materials references for the floor, I came across a perfect choice of a bathroom floor grid on John Evans (Rotin's) photostream at Flickr.com.
though I tried to contact him, I didn't seem get any response. yet I feel obligated to give this guy the credit for using his photo as a reference, so here is the link:

hope you like it. I've enjoyed exploring the big-small world of soap bubbles. thanks for all my friends giving me creative crit along the way.
Cheers
